The town itself is walkable in minutes, but the good stuff in the area is spread out, and public transport between beaches comes down to shared taxis and vans running to and from the San Antonio junction on Federal Highway 200.

Does Mazunte have an airport? How do you get there?
Mazunte has no airport of its own. The two nearest are the Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX), about 45 kilometers and close to an hour away via Highway 200, and the Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), about 65 kilometers and a little over an hour away. Both handle significant tourism: Huatulco closed 2024 with 847 thousand passengers according to Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), and Puerto Escondido topped 850 thousand that same year, with growth of nearly 10% in 2025 according to the Secretaría de Turismo de Oaxaca. From either one, the route to Mazunte runs along Federal Highway 200 to the San Antonio junction, where the local road into town begins.

Save your lodging's address and the location of the San Antonio junction before leaving the airport: it is the point where Highway 200 connects with the road to Mazunte, and having it clear saves you loops if you arrive at night.
What can you do from Mazunte with a car?
Mazunte is an ideal base because it has a lot within a short distance. San Agustinillo is barely a kilometer away (about five minutes), Zipolite and its famous nudist beach about six kilometers, and the Ventanilla lagoon —a mangrove with crocodiles, birds, and canoe tours run by the local community— three or four kilometers away, on the same Highway 200 toward Puerto Escondido. On foot from town you reach Punta Cometa, the sacred hill famous for its sunsets, and the secluded Playa Mermejita. And with a car the getaways open up: the turtle sanctuaries, Huatulco, and Puerto Escondido as day trips.

The Playa Escobilla turtle sanctuary, one of the world's most important nesting sites, has its entrance on Highway 200 toward Puerto Escondido.
