Quick answer
Renting a car in Puebla is the most practical way to enjoy the city and its surroundings: the historic center, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, is just the starting point, because Cholula, Atlixco, Africam Safari, and even Mexico City are a short drive away. You arrive through Hermanos Serdán International Airport, in Huejotzingo, about 25 km from downtown. With a car you move at your own pace between the Puebla capital and its getaways, without depending on taxis or tours. KORU RENT is preparing its arrival in Puebla.
Why is renting a car in Puebla worth it?
Puebla de Zaragoza is one of Mexico's most complete colonial cities. Its historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, with the Cathedral, the Rosario Chapel, the Palafoxiana Library, and streets of talavera tile and stone you can walk. But what makes Puebla great doesn't fit in the center: the volcanoes, the Magic Towns, and the cuisine that gave the world mole poblano and chiles en nogada are spread across the whole valley. Without your own vehicle, every outing becomes a taxi or a fixed-schedule tour.
With a rented vehicle, Puebla changes size. You can have breakfast in the historic center, head up mid-morning to the Great Pyramid of Cholula, eat among the flowers of Atlixco, and come back in the afternoon without negotiating fares or waiting for transport. It's the same principle that drives KORU RENT: giving you real autonomy over your trip, with a vehicle that adapts to your plan and not the other way around.
How do you get from Puebla airport to the city?
Hermanos Serdán International Airport (code PBC) is in Huejotzingo, about 25 km from downtown Puebla, next to the Mexico City-Puebla highway. It is part of the Metropolitan Airport System, designed to decongest Mexico City's airport, which is why many travelers use it as an alternative to the capital. In 2025 it surpassed 1.2 million passengers, with growth close to 16% over the previous year, according to the airport's own figures. On landing, with your own vehicle you connect directly to the city and avoid depending on scheduled transfers.
Tip
Save your lodging's address and the route from the airport before leaving: Puebla's historic center has one-way streets and pedestrian zones. Locating your hotel and its parking saves you loops on arrival.
What can you do from Puebla with a car?
Puebla is an unbeatable base because it has everything around it. About 15 minutes away is Cholula, a Magic Town since 2012, with the Great Pyramid (Tlachihualtépetl) and its hilltop sanctuary overlooking the volcanoes. Half an hour away, Atlixco, the Town of Flowers, another Magic Town. Africam Safari, the Puebla safari park, is about 20 minutes from downtown. And to the west, the highway leads to Mexico City in about two hours. All of that opens up when you drive and don't depend on a bus's itinerary.

How far are the main destinations from Puebla?
As a reference for planning your days: from Hermanos Serdán airport to downtown it's about 25 km; to Cholula, about 15 km (20 min); to Africam Safari, about 16-17 km (20 min); to Atlixco, about 30 km (40 min); to Mexico City, about 130 km (2 hours via the toll highway, with the San Marcos and San Martín tolls); and to Cantona, about 104 km (close to 1 hour). With these distances in mind, it's easy to plan half-day or full-day outings without rushing.
“In Puebla, the map opens up when you have the keys: the World Heritage center, the volcanoes, the Magic Towns, and the Puebla table stop being scheduled tours and become your own decisions.”
