The two nearest are Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (AIQ), about an hour away by car, and Bajío International Airport (BJX), in Silao, near León, roughly an hour and a half away. Many travelers land at one of them and continue to San Miguel from there. Leaving the airport with your own vehicle avoids depending on scheduled transfers and leaves you mobile for the center and the whole Bajío from day one.

The heart of San Miguel is made of cobbled, narrow, uphill streets with limited parking. It's best to leave the car in a lot near the center and walk the Jardín, the Parroquia, and the lanes; save the vehicle for the Bajío getaways, which is where it really pays off.
