How do you get from Cancún airport to your hotel?
Cancún International Airport is south of the city, next to Federal Highway 307. The Hotel Zone is about 23 kilometers away (25 to 30 minutes by car along Boulevard Kukulcán), and downtown Cancún a bit closer. From there, the same Highway 307 connects south to Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, and the avenue toward Puerto Juárez takes you to the Isla Mujeres ferry. Leaving with your own vehicle saves you the taxi line and leaves you ready to move from day one.
Tip
Save your hotel's address and its Boulevard Kukulcán kilometer before leaving the airport: the Hotel Zone is numbered by kilometers, and knowing your km saves you loops when arriving at night.
What can you do from Cancún with a car?
Cancún is an unbeatable base because it has everything around it. To the north, the Ultramar ferry crosses to Isla Mujeres from Puerto Juárez in about 15 to 20 minutes, with departures every half hour. To the west, via Highway 307 and the Leona Vicario turnoff, the Puerto Morelos Route of Cenotes begins, about 40 kilometers away. Inland, Highway 180D leads to Valladolid and Chichén Itzá. And to the south, the same corridor connects with Playa del Carmen (about 55 km) and Tulum (about 120 km). All of that opens up when you drive.
