How do you get to Puerto Escondido?
Getting there from the state capital is no longer an ordeal. The 104.3 km Barranca Larga–Ventanilla highway opened on 4 February 2024 and cut the Oaxaca City–coast trip from about 6.5 hours to roughly 2.5 hours (CAPUFE). It has been a toll road since 31 January 2025, at an approximate cost of 468 pesos per car one way across its two toll plazas (Heraldo de México). Along the way it crosses 3 tunnels, 10 bridges and 3 viaducts.

Zicatela: the Mexican Pipeline
Zicatela is Puerto Escondido's calling card and one of the most powerful waves on the planet.
